What: In a 3.5-hour workshop, learn from Prairies Over Lawns landscaping cooperative what prairies are, why they are important, and how you can plant your own to help bring back biodiversity, trap more carbon, spread beauty, and heal the land. Includes hands-on instruction — as a community we will be transforming the Plant Shop Chicago parkway into a native Illinois prairie!
When: 3 options — Sun 10/6, Sat 10/12, Sat 10/19 9am-12:30pm
Cost: $50 per registration
Where: We will meet across the street at Casa Cactus (4595 N Elston Ave) for a presentation before heading to the Plant Shop Chicago parkway to begin the training.
Who: Anyone interested in prairies, native ecosystems, local solutions to climate change, the beauty of nature, and Land Back!
Fine Print: Prairies Over Lawns will provide all the necessary tools to convert the lawn into prairie, including shovels, rakes, gloves, protective glasses. You should wear comfortable clothing durable enough to work in and get dirty, close-toed shoes, and an outfit that will keep you warm enough to work outside for up to 2 hours. Bring water and snacks! We will have access to Casa Cactus to refill, rest, and use the bathroom.
